What Shelvanize is
Shelvanize catalogues the physical books you own and works out the order to put them back on the shelf. It is made by Laughter Consulting LLC. Using the app means you accept these terms.
Using the app
You may use Shelvanize for your own collection, personal or professional, on the devices you own. Please do not try to break it, resell it, or pull it apart to redistribute it.
Shelvanize is for your books. It is not a lending library system, it does not publish anything about you, and there is nowhere in it for one person to send content to another.
There are no accounts
There is no sign-up and no sign-in. Your collection lives on your device. That is deliberate, and it has a consequence worth stating plainly: if you delete the app without exporting first, your collection goes with it. Export is free, works offline, and takes one tap.
Your purchase
Shelvanize is free to download. One optional purchase, the Shelvanize Unlock, turns on the arrangement engine and adding books with the camera.
It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Nothing renews, nothing is charged again, and there is nothing to cancel. It is bought through the App Store or Google Play, and those stores handle the payment, not us. Restoring it on another device you own is free and needs no account.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, because they took the payment. We cannot issue one directly, but tell us if something went wrong and we will help you get to the right place.
What stays free, always
These are commitments, not current settings.
- Your collection is never capped. There is no limit on how many books you can keep, and there will not be one.
- Typing books in by hand is free and unlimited.
- Export and import are never behind the purchase. CSV and JSON, offline, with no account.
- A refund does not take your books. If you buy the unlock and later refund it, the paid features switch off, and everything already in your collection stays readable, editable and exportable.
Where the book information comes from
Book details come from Open Library, whose data is released under CC0, ingested into our own catalogue rather than requested from them while you use the app. Subject ordering uses Library of Congress Classification.
Two honest limits. Not every book has a published classification, and rather than inventing one Shelvanize puts those in a clearly marked section at the end. And catalogue records are contributed by other people, so a detail can be wrong or missing; you can edit any of it, and your edit wins.
The app is provided as is
Shelvanize is provided without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error free, and we do not promise a particular classification, order, or measurement is correct for your purposes.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Laughter Consulting LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer.
Keep your own backups. Export is free and offline precisely so that losing a device does not have to mean losing your catalogue.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change we will update this page and its version and date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
